This just might change the way you think!

Hey Reader,

If I could listen to your thoughts right now, what do you think I’d hear? Living with ADHD can make it ridiculously easy to beat ourselves up for not fitting in, not being "normal," and a whole lot of other stuff. If you could peek into my brain, you’d definitely hear a whole lot of self-criticism and some not-so-flattering chatter happening at full volume. Isn’t it wild how quickly our brains can jump to that self-judgment? If your mind is anything like mine, just remember: there’s absolutely nothing wrong with you! It totally makes sense for our minds to go there. The truth is that our brains are always trying to look out for us and they do this for a bunch of different reasons like...

  • Helping us learn so we’re ready for what’s next
  • Reminding us of what really matters
  • Protecting us from harm
  • Help us chase after what we want
  • Steer us away from what we don’t want
  • Encourage us to change our actions for better outcomes

Think of your mind like that friend who’s just trying a little too hard to be helpful—like the one who means well but ends up complicating everything instead. Good intentions, but not exactly what we need, right?

So, let’s pause for a second. When you let those not-so-helpful thoughts take the lead, where do they take you? Closer to the life you want or further away from it? And when those pesky thoughts pop up, what do you usually find yourself doing?

When you start hearing those critical voices in your head, one thing you can do is create a little distance from those thoughts. Why? Because when you put some space between the thought and YOU, you’re less likely to get pulled in by that negativity. It’s the first step of taking charge and not letting those thoughts run the show. You get to be the one in the driver’s seat!

So how do you do this? It’s actually pretty simple:

  1. Notice the thought. Hit pause and really pay attention to those judgmental voices.
  2. Name it. You can say something like, "I’m having the thought that..." or even call it out directly, like, “Oh, there’s that ‘not good enough’ voice again!”

It may sound straightforward, but simply noticing and naming what’s happening in your mind is a powerful first step to unhooking from those thoughts and moving toward the life you want.

Give it a shot and see what happens! I’d love to hear how it goes for you, so hit reply and let me know!

Till next time,

What I'm Working On...

This week I am working on getting back into the swing of things. I'm getting back into Fall routines and creating a schedule for myself that fosters balance. At least, I'm trying to do this. We'll see how it goes. ;)

Resource/Tip of the Week

Have a tendency to impulse buy? If you're online shopping, try putting in your cart and then leaving it for a day. If you're still thinking about it after a day, then make the conscious decision to buy it. If the spark has faded and you feel ambiguous about it, take it out of the cart.

Mindful Minute

Body Scan: Close your eyes and mentally scan your body from head to toe, noticing any areas of tension and consciously relaxing them.

Hey Reader, I hope you’re good wherever you are and whatever you’re doing. I can't believe it but I just turned over my calendar to December and it’s well and truly the season of shorter days and darker nights. I’m not gonna lie…there’s something about this time of year that just gets me feeling so cozy. So, it feels like it’s been a minute since I’ve popped into your email inbox. A lot has been going on here behind the scenes both personally and professionally and I wanted to update you a...

A group of golden spoons sitting on top of each other

Hey there, Reader! It's been a minute, hasn’t it? How have you been doing? I can’t believe how quickly this month has flown by. Seriously, it feels like I blinked, and suddenly, the cooler weather is creeping in. I find myself daydreaming about all things winter - cozy blankets and hot chocolate which is wild, right? And it seems like I’m not the only one thinking about the holidays early this year—I was in Costco the other day, and guess what? Holiday stuff was on full display front and...

Hey Reader, I hope this email finds you in a good place—or at least a place where you've been able to find moments of peace amidst the end of summer/beginning of September chaos. For me, it's been a week of holidays, getting super sick and just feeling overwhelmed by all the things that I scheduled out for myself in the Fall and worrying that I've overcommitted myself. Is it just me? So, suffice it to say that lately, I've been feeling all the ADHD things and just sitting in them feeling...
